Paul Lewis

Associate Professor of Philosophy
University of the Incarnate Word

Paul Lewis is associate professor and chair of Philosophy at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) in San Antonio, Texas, where he has been teaching for the past 10 years. His research interests have varied, encompassing work in the philosophy of science, aesthetics, applied ethics and social justice. For the past three years he has conducted summer faculty development workshops that explore the ethics of teaching not merely as a profession but as a vocation. Most recently he conducted a humanities workshop for faculty and administrators in the health sciences, examining the role that philosophy, literature, history and spirituality might play in the education of health professionals. Paul has been increasingly driven to understand the whole circumstance of teaching and learning as a site of deep moral responsibility. He is a husband, a father of two children, a didjeridoo player, and a grateful alumnus of Collegium.
