Marianne Lloyd and Peter Alonzi
Surrounded by family and friends, Peter Alonzi, an economist from Dominican University, received the Collegium Visionary Award for his creative and steadfast work in bringing the lessons of Collegium to his home campus over many years. Collegium Board Chair Marianne Lloyd read the citation to a crowd gathered at Dominican’s Caritas Veritas Symposium, which Peter was instrumental in founding. She noted Peter’s being a catalyst to the DU community in finding ways to “seek, embrace and share the Truth with enduring Love,” in his teaching, scholarship and interactions with colleagues and students. Peter offered heartfelt words of thanks, drawing upon both his experiences at Collegium and his long career in the classroom, inviting all present to “Gaze on the stars. Their light gives vision. This light can guide the footsteps of your journey.” Those seem a fitting summons for all of us in the Collegium universe. And surprising absolutely no one who knows him, Peter requested that the cash prize attached to his Visionary Award be used by Dominican University to fund a second participant at this year’s summer colloquy.
