Drawing on the longstanding, venerable connection between Catholicism and the arts, we plan an evening of original art songs, inspired by the feisty women of Jewish and Christian Scriptures, and punctuated with new poetry also catalyzed by “Women of the Book.” This interdisciplinary, inter-faith collaboration synthesizes the intellectual vitality and creativity of faculty and students in four departments on campus: Voice, Composition, Garaventa Center for Catholic Intellectual Life, and English, and extends the university’s nascent collaboration with the local Jewish community. Process and product, including a wine and cheese reception, will cultivate the sacramental imaginations of all participating scholars, artists and audience members.
