David Gentry-Akin, a priest of the Diocese of Stockton, is professor of Roman Catholic Theology at Saint Mary’s College of California, where he has served for 21 years. Father Dave, as his students call him, teaches courses in the Bible and in systematic theology. In January of most years, he also takes a group of students on a course and pilgrimage to Rome called “Walking in the Footsteps of the Early Christians”. He serves as a Resident Director in Michael Ageno Hall and oversees the personal, spiritual, and intellectual development of 49 sophomores. Finally, on the weekends, he serves as associate pastor for Saint Jude’s Church in Ceres, California. He holds the pontifical doctorate and licentiate in Sacred Theology from the Catholic University of Leuven (Louvain) in Belgium, and the Masters in Divinity from the University of Notre Dame (Indiana). Father Dave loves the Catholic intellectual and spiritual tradition and his greatest passion is in helping people come to a deeper understanding and appreciation of this rich, multi-faceted, and highly complex and interesting faith tradition. Additionally, he enjoys reading, listening to music, bicycling, hiking, swimming, and gardening.
