Cecilia González-Andrieu: The Beauty of Education and Social Justice

A proposal for an aesthetics of what education can do, and in Catholic institutions, what education must do
-

Dr. González-Andrieu, Professor of Theology and Theological Aesthetics at Loyola Marymount University, examines the state of our world and how being an educator is truly a frontline position. Reminiscent of Pope Francisco’s description of the Church as a field hospital, Dr. González-Andrieu believes education has now taken on the role of field hospital in an urgent way. Catholic institutions especially have an enormous responsibility to invite, make accessible and help in the formation of our young. Drawing upon her work in Bridge to Wonder: Art as a Gospel of Beauty, Dr. González-Andrieu’s talk blends two crucial Collegium themes: sacramental imagination and Catholic social teaching.
